Nativa Resort is located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica in Tarcoles, just north of Jaco and south of Puntarenas. The drive from the San Jose airport is about 120 kilometers or 75 miles, and is over mountains and through villages taking about two hours. The nearest major towns are Orotina and Jaco. Orotina is a great place to shop for your fruit for the week - there are many outdoor markets and stalls along the highway. Jaco is a beachside town and a hub of activity with shops, restaurants, banks, tour guides, surf shops and grocery stores. Jaco is a great place to learn to surf. The next beach, Hermosa, is for skilled surfers.
Nativa Resort is on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Tarcoles River and jungle. On the east side of the property is Carara National Park. Since Nativa is in such a natural setting, you will need a car to get around. There are no restaurants or shops at the resort. Small grocery stores and restaurants are within a 10 minute drive. Jaco is about a twenty minute drive from Nativa. Other resorts nearby are Villa Lapas, Los Suenos (Marriot and Marina) and Villa Caletas.

Animals and Flowers are Abundant at Nativa
There are only a few houses scattered about the roughly two miles of paved road throughout the resort. Most of the area is jungle from the top of the hill to the village and river to the west, and to the main highway to the east. There are plenty of animals and beautiful plants to admire - all within view of the house.
White-Faced Monkeys
Coochies
Scarlet Macaws are heard and seen mornings and evenings
This Iguana lives on the roof behind the master bedroom
Tarcoles River
The Tarcoles River, bird and crocodile tour are only a 15 minute walk from the house
The Tarcoles River is one of two rivers in Costa Rica famous for its crocodiles. The easiest view of the crocs is from the highway bridge just two miles north of Nativa. The best way to see them is on a boat tour, and the best way to get there from the house is walking down the hill through the back gate, and down the road to the riverside where there are a couple of companies offering trips up the river and through the mangroves. You will not only see crocs, but birds of all types, including Tucans, Parrotts, Woodpeckers, Herons and Macaws.
